Pepper meandered into the bank, blinking. What a thrill, eh? She bubbled through the gloom and drudge of the people, like a lit match through darkness. She had a package and a few letters clasped to her chest by her arms, the short girl pushing through people to get to the front. A man nearby was arguing over the loan for his house, looking ready to grab the teller window and smash it, veins in his neck and his face redder than fire. Pepper looked away, nervous as the teller looked up, scratching his stubble from the clear lack of sleep and shaving.

"... You need somethin'?" He rumbled, his voice like tacks in tar sliding down metal. She placed down the package on the cold, bronze metal and smiled cheerily.

"I need to place all of this in my safety deposit box, and withdraw fifteen!" Pepper said, as the man took the box and letters, turning away. She looked around the very low-roof bank, people in a massive crowd inside, looking at this and worrying about that. Pipes ran along the ceiling, things hung lazily in disrepair. She looked back just as the man turned around.

"Sorry lass, don't got no fifteen." He said, crossing his arms and shrugging his shoulders haphazardly.

"But... You've got to be kidding me! I know I put in fifteen last night!" She said, a hint of flair in her voice. She blew air out of the corner of her mouth, blowing away a strand of her vibrant red hair from her eyes. "I just KNOW nothing could have happened to it!"

"I'm sorry, Pepper, but there's nothin' in there. Yeh've got to keep movin'." He said, and moved off to another window. Pepper, defeated, meandered through the people and stood in the bank, now a part of the people she pushed through, in disbelief of having no money to her name. After a moment or so, she moved outside, the cold winter air biting at her. She stood over her bike, staring blankly as if everything would make sense if she thought of it.
